Maury Aaseng graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a BFA in Graphic Design and began working as a freelance illustrator in San Diego, California creating graphics for young-adult non-fiction. Shortly after, his work expanded into the realm of medical and anatomical illustration. He now enjoys collaborating with authors and experts in various medical fields to create vivid and clear illustrations for publications that illuminate concepts necessary to the health sciences, the body, and nature.
He currently resides in Duluth, Minnesota with his wife and two children near the shores of Lake Superior. His work first won recognition in the juried exhibition Upstream People Gallery in 2008, and recently in 2016 a collection of his watercolor work titled Saturated Life was displayed at the Great Lakes Aquarium gallery. He has taught classes covering scientific illustration and nature-inspired watercolor, and in recent years he has drawn on his experience to create books that demonstrate techniques to other budding artists.
